cbd oil

Cannabidiol or CBD comes from the hemp or marijuana plants, both of which belong to the cannabis sativa species. However, hemp-derived CBD contains no more than 0.3% THC, which is the legalized THC level in most states. Conversely, marijuana-derived CBD contains more THC and can only be bought and used in states that have legalized marijuana. CBD oil comprises two essential components- cannabidiol and carrier oil. It may also contain other compounds, depending on its extraction method.

CBD’s Potency

cbd's potencyThe potency of CBD means how strong the CBD is. If we have two CBD extracts, one rated at 300mg and another at 600mg, the first one will be about half as strong as the second one. But the potency also depends on the size of the bottle. The total CBD indicated in mg refers to the dose in the whole bottle. As such, if you have a small-sized bottle, the potency will be higher.

Some of those conditions and diseases that require high potency CBD include chronic inflammation, moderate to severe pain, moderate to severe anxiety, frequent migraines, and cancers, among others. It is therefore critical to consider the potency when choosing CBD products because you will need to consume a lot of low potent CBD oil, to match the same dose if you took a high potent CBD oil.

Calculating the Potency of CBD Oil

The critical thing to keep in mind is that the size of the bottle matters. Taking a case where we have a 15ml bottle full of 600mg CBD oil and another 30ml bottle full of 6000mg CBD oil, which of the two is more potent? You need to remember that the total CBD is spread equally in the entire bottle’s content, which means the CBD in the larger bottle will be as half as potent as that in the small bottle.
The calculation to support this is as follows:
CBD Strength in mg/ml = Amount of CBD in mg/ Bottle Size in ml. In the above case, the potency of CBD in 15ml bottle will be, 600/15= 40mg/ml and for the 30ml bottle will be 600/30 =20mg/ml.

Factors that Determine CBD’s Potency

High potency CBD has a high concentration of CBD, and this is typically over 3000mg. CBD’s potency depends on two things-CBD strength (the milligrams of CBD per every milliliter) and the CBD extract type. There are three CBD extract types-full spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD, and CBD isolate. Full-spectrum is the most potent, while broad-spectrum CBD has THC removed and is deemed potent but not as full spectrum. CBD isolate, which has CBD only, is considered low potent CBD even if it could have high CBD concentration.…
